ski schoolWhat is Telemark Skiing?

telemark ski school

The telemark turn is easily recognized as the skier separates their feet, one foot forward, one foot back with the heel raised on the back foot. Telemark skiers use specialized boots and bindings that enable the heel of the boot to rise off the ski. This is why telemark skiing is also called "freeheel" skiing. Today many alpine skiers turn to telemark skiing to shake up their skiing skills and provide a new challenge at the ski resort.

An experienced telemark skier is a beautiful and exciting sight.  Its a blend of body positions keeping the freeheel skier in a constant state of motion, utilizing balance, grace and power.  However these skills are not easily learned and sometimes counter-intuitive to the veteran alpine skier or snowboarder.
