MAS Rock Climbing Workshops are one-day instructional clinics designed as building blocks to assist you in becoming a well balanced outdoor rock climber.

outdoor rock climbingIntro. to Outdoor Rock Climbing Workshop top

Whether you have never rock climbed before or its just been awhile, this thorough introduction to outdoor rock climbing will get you moving safely and confidently on the rock.  No previous experience is required and all climbing gear is included.

  • Proper equipment use and care
  • Top-rope belay skills
  • Commands
  • Outdoor rock climbing techniques (face & crack)
Beginning Rock Climbing Class
Another option is the Basic Rockcraft Seminar in Bear Valley which covers the same material plus an introduction to top-rope anchor construction and more outdoor climbing time in Bear Valley.

Learn how to set a safe top-ropes using bolts, trees, and boulders.  "Bombproof" anchors are a critical step to gaining independence for outdoor climbing.  This is a great course for indoor climbers ready to venture outdoors.

  • Solid anchor construction & evaluation
  • Outdoor climbing site management

This workshop expands on the Top-Rope Anchors Workshop to include the use and evaluation of removable protection such as nuts, hexes, tri-cams, and cams. Participants will build numerous anchor systems while receiving valuable feedback from professional instructors.   Time permitting we will do a little climbing at the end of the day.

  • Proper use and evaluation of traditional gear
  • "MAS EARNEST" Principle" of safe anchors systems
  • "MAS 5-Points" of solid anchors

Another option is the Anchoring Rockcraft Seminar in Bear Valley which spends two days working on general anchoring skills plus free climbing time in the High Sierra.

What would you do if your climbing partner got injured at the other end of the rope? This full day program covers important rescue skills using standard climbing equipment.  Many times a few basic skills can help prevent a mishap from becoming an epic.

This program is taught with a low student to instructor ratio in a "hands-on" environment with plenty of personalized feedback. While lead climbing is not "safe", this workshop identifies hazards and focuses on skills and attitudes to minimize risk.

Although it is a thrill to climb beyond a top-rope or single rope length, the stakes are higher, literally. Let MAS show you skills to increase your safety and efficiency on multi-pitch climbs. Particpants will be active in all aspects of a 2-4 pitch climbs. Up, up and away!
