MAS News:

Major Winter Storms have been, and are expected to keep pounding the west coast of California. Bear Valley is having an exceptional winter season, especially since our central Sierra Nevada location has been gleaning more snow than our Lake Tahoe neighbors to the north due to the southerly storm trajectories. 8.5 feet of snow is piled on top of the Bear Valley Mountain Resort and another 3-5 feet of snow is expected by this Friday (2/27/04)! So if you haven't had your fill of powder skiing this season, now is the time.

The Spring Skiing/Snowboarding season is shaping up to be a great one. MAS guides are excited to lead trips and continue making sweet turns on Mt. Lassen, Mt. Shasta and the Eastern High Sierra.

The MAS 2004 Rock Climbing Season is poised and ready business. We are excited to start leading and teaching people the skills and thrills of technical outdoor rock climbing. MAS has broadened its course offerings while focusing on some of the best climbing sites in Northern California (e.g. Pinnacles, Lovers Leap, Calaveras Dome and Bear Valley). All MAS rock climbing programs and dates have been updated on the MAS Calendar.

The REI Northern California Rock Climbing School is continuing to offer programs in the San Francisco Bay, San Jose and Sacramento areas. Although open to general public, REI members receive a 10% discount on all scheduled programs.

Bear Valley Telemark Festival Wrap-Up:
[top ]

The 8th Annual Bear Valley Telemark Festival has come and gone. Great snow, beautiful weather, strong industry participation and of course heaps of spirited telemark skiers flocked to the small alpine village of Bear Valley between February 6-8, 2004. When it was all said and done 25 staff, 25 instructors, 20 industry representatives and 259 participants made history by attending the largest telemark festival in California!

Don't fret festival alumni, our goal is to make the festival better rather than bigger. We seek a higher level of professionalism, environmentalism and hedonism. Some ideas that are being tossed around include: more organic food, alternative energy sources (wind & solar), and donating a percentage of the proceeds to an environmental cause.

Some changes for the 9th Annual Bear Valley Telemark Festival will be:
     • More lodging packages for festival participants
     • Smaller group sizes for the Friday Workshops
     • No dogs on the Sunday Backcountry Tours

We are always open to your feedback and suggestions. Please feel free to contact us with a letter or email. We love to talk about our work!
