"Hiring a private telemark lesson was easy. My instructor was professional, fun and gave me a great lesson. He quickly identified my strengths and weakness and we developed a plan. After 2 hours I was turning confidently on intermediate slopes! This is a big deal for me since I have been struggling to "teach myself" how to telemark for 3 years." (Christy Montel - March 2006) |

What
is Telemark Skiing? |
top |
 |
The telemark
turn is easily recognized as the skier separates their feet, one foot forward, one foot back with the heel raised on the back foot. Telemark skiers use specialized boot and bindings which enables the heel of of the boot to rise off the ski. This is why telemark skiing is also called "freeheel" skiing. Today many alpine skiers turn to telemark skiing to raise their skiing skills and/or provide a new challenge at the ski resort.
An experienced telemark skier is a beautiful
and exciting sight. The blend of body positions keeping the freeheel skier
in a constant state of motion, utilizing balance, grace and power. However these
skills are not easily learned and sometimes counter-intuitive to the
veteran alpine skier or snowboarder. |
